International Day of the Environment

KONPAY partnered with CEFTAGE, a technical agricultural school, to realize a major event in Jacmel of reflection and debate on themes pertaining to the environment. Several other schools were invited to join us, including Lyce Célie L'Amour, Saint Louis College, Centre Acibiade Pommeac and other groups such as JACHA, farmers, small vendors etc...

We began with a mass led by Father Rony Fabien in Jacmel’s cathedral reflecting on environment themes. 
After Mass we led a peaceful march through the downtown marketplace, with 2,000 trees from the JDS nursery donated so that each participant had a tree in their hands and signs to educate people how to protect the environment.

Then, all participants entered the Lycee Célie L'Armour's to hear a conference and debate on the environment, facilitated by Agronomist Neptune Ked and Sociologist Mario Jean. The event ended in an organized fashion at 12:45pm. It was a powerful day and we are proud to live the sentiment written on our banner: Let us lift our heads before the world as we protect our environment.
